WELCOME TO THE 10th IAPMD ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING 2025!

Dear colleagues!

We are delighted to welcome you to the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting for the Malaysian Division of the International Academy of Pathology [IAPMD], scheduled to take place on 1st and 2nd October 2025, at the SunMed Convention Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Our conference theme is “Empowering Women’s Health: From Cells to Cure,” is a fitting proposition for breast and gynecological pathology. We will cover controversial areas in detail, provide an update on molecular pathology, new findings, difficult areas, the pathogenesis of diseases, lessons learned, new diagnostic biomarkers, and presentations on challenging and interesting cases. We are also delighted to collaborate with the Malaysian Society of Cytology (MSoC) and Sunway Medical Centre to realise this conference. MSoC will sponsor one of the speakers and organise the post-conference workshop on relevant cytopathology issues.

Professor Annie Cheung (the University of Hong Kong), Professor Tan Puay Hoon (the National University of Singapore), Professor Gary Tse (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Prof Mark Chen (President of the Taiwan Society of Clinical Cytology) are among the confirmed overseas invited speakers. They are key opinion leaders in these areas. They will bring you a masterclass to improve diagnostic accuracy and concordance in the field. Not forgetting the local invited speakers, Dr Arfahiza Selimin and myself, we will bring the best programme to you!

The organising committee comprises Pathologists, Science officers, Medical Lab technologists, and support staff, who hail from the Ministry of Health, Hospitals, Universities, and Private sectors. Such diverse people from diverse backgrounds are the key to the success of our discipline and have now become the key persons in this team.

We look forward to welcoming you to the event.

Let us have a wonderful conference!

Best Regards,

Dr Mohamad Rafie Md Kaslan

Chair of the Organizing Committee, IAPMD 2025

I would like to welcome everyone to the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting for the Malaysian Division of the International Academy of Pathology [IAPMD].

IAPMD was established on November 14th, 2013, and the Society is 12 years old; rightly, we will be having our 12th ASM in 2025. However, we skipped two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. This annual conference is held in different cities in Malaysia and is usually hosted by pathologists from the state of Malaysia where the venue is held. For this year,  the organisation committee is rather unique as it comprises pathologists not only from the Ministry of Health but also pathologists from various  Universities such as UiTM, UKM, USM, and UPM, as well as pathologists from private laboratories, assisted by their technical staff.

Such a mixture of organising committee members made me reflect on a historic date, the 10th of October 2013, the day we had our first meeting [held in USM Kubang Kerian, Kelantan] to establish IAPMD. The pathologists who attended this meeting were also from various states and entities; you can see the photos on www.iapmd.net

At our first Annual Conference Meeting in 2014, which was held in Sungai Buluh, the IAP President at that time, Professor Samir Amr, graced the conference. For the 10th ASM, InsyaAllah, the President-Elect of Central  IAP, Professor Ray McMahon, will attend. We hope this will become a tradition in the future, and we will invite the executives of Central IAP to our event.

Enjoy the conference and the networking!

Professor Emerita Dr Nor Hayati Othman

President, International Academy of Pathology [Malaysian Division]
